Investigation reveals that Amazon destroys millions of cell phones per year
An investigation by a British news agency has revealed that Amazon destroys thousands of cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices every year. According to the survey, all devices are destroyed even if they are in perfect condition to empty the company's stock.
The data obtained by ITV News includes images of a warehouse in the city of Dunfermline, Scotland, where various products are sent for destruction. The disposal takes place in landfills and recycling centers.
The investigation also obtained exclusive information from a former Amazon employee, who revealed that the practice is common in fulfillment centers and that Amazon destroys an average of 130 items per week. According to the former employee, in addition to cell phones, devices such as MacBooks, iPads and even stocks of face masks Covid-19 protection are frequently destroyed, most of the products are sealed in the boxes. Despite the discovery, Amazon downplayed the incident and claimed that it destroys a very small number of cell phones compared to what it sells.
