Virtual Reality Headset from Apple should reach the market by 2022

April 1th 2021

As always, the Apple certainly has a lot of news still under lock and key: we already know that AirTags are coming, and possibly iPads with mini-LED display are also very close. Now, Bloomberg returns to an even older subject, but never made official: o possible headset virtual reality from the owner of the iPhone.

According to the outlet, the Cupertino company is close to making it official. It is just waiting for the chance to provide an in-person event where journalists and guests would not be exposed due to the pandemic. While WWDC is already scheduled for June, it is uncertain whether the virtual reality headset from Apple appears there, since it will happen virtually.

Apple's strategy would be to announce such ambitious new hardware in a way that all attendees could immediately test the product, which would then release hands-on videos and preliminary reviews online that would help to excite the device's potential audience. As such, a date is still uncertain, but financial market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the device will be released by 2022. He also teases some possible features, such as 8K displays and eye-tracking technology.

Device of the Apple could be (very) expensive

Even though we wanted to excite the market with this announcement, Apple should make its virtual reality headset a product for a select few: Kuo himself claims that the price will be higher than that of iPhones, while other insiders are betting on a price tag of around US$ 3 (R$ 17, in direct conversion today, 01/04).

It's hard to say that the Apple is entering the virtual reality headset market late because it is very difficult for a launch of it not to end doing well in sales. The price of the virtual reality headset could be a determining factor in this. If it is too expensive, it will be a niche product. If the pricing is more palatable, it is likely that this segment will heat up again, with competitors reinvesting in these gadgets, creating a second VR headset craze.
