Google Drive brings accelerated editing of Office files

A new feature promises to bring more agility and practicality to those who need to access and edit documents remotely: Google Drive will now allow accelerated editing of MS Office files.

The new functionality is now available to corporate customers of Google. However, it may still take some time to reach all users.

The idea is that those who have Android phones will be able to edit Microsoft documents in Google Drive apps. This way, there is no need to double-click to open the preview, convert them to Google format, or have to download the files to the smartphone.

There are exceptions

Working with files in the cloud is interesting for many people and companies. However, the confidentiality and security of information must be maintained. With this in mind, Google Drive has implemented some exceptions. Users can open all Office documents in Drive in accelerated editing mode, directly for editing, commenting and collaboration.

However, if any user password protects the file, this feature will not be available.

Likewise, users who have installed the Office editing extension for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations will also not be able to use the new functionality. In this case, the document will open in this function and not in Google Drive applications, such as Docs.
