Fire TV remote gains buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and more

March 24th, 2021

A nova versão from the remote control of Fire TV Amazon's Apple TV now comes with special buttons for streaming services Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Music, as well as a dedicated button for Alexa. The buttons take users directly to the apps for these services with just one tap. Another addition is a button that takes users to a timeline showing content from other subscribed services.

Very useful (for those who subscribe to these services)

These new controller buttons have the services' own colors and logos, which seems to me to be a somewhat misguided aesthetic choice, considering that the previous designs were more minimalist. Also, as the The Verge pointed out, for those who are not subscribers to the four services, some of the new buttons on the Fire TV remote may be useless.

Fire TV Control Buttons

Sure, it's practically impossible to find someone who doesn't subscribe to Netflix or Prime Video, but the Amazon Music button doesn't really make that much sense. In any case, a really useful update to Amazon's new remote would be programmable buttons for the services that users actually use. In Brazil, video streaming apps most used are YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and Globoplay, for example.

Be careful not to sign by accident

For Brazilian users, these new Fire TV buttons will probably be a nuisance. One wrong click and you'll end up on a website asking you to subscribe to yet another streaming service. Anyone interested in subscribing to the four available services that the remote control buttons direct you to: Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Music would have to shell out more than R$75 per month. As we mentioned, it's hard to find someone who doesn't subscribe to at least one of the first two, and if you're a Prime customer, you also have access to Music, but either way, here's a tip to pay attention to.

Did you like it? Just buy the regular Fire TV Stick or the 4K one

If you subscribe to all the services and are interested in Amazon's new Fire TV remote with special buttons, just buy one Fire TV Stick (R$ 360) or the Fire TV Stick 4K (about R$426).
