Compared to Google Photos, IDrive has an unlimited plan for around R$5 in the first year
Sad about the end of unlimited storage from Google Photos? Of course, some companies took advantage of the moment to launch offers, as did Amazon did when the Apple Music announced that would have Hi-Fi at no additional cost. IDrive can not be very well known, but offering an unlimited plan for image backup may increase its popularity with some people.
Despite selling plans based on storage space, IDrive is launching a service that includes unlimited cloud storage of images. At a cost of US$10 per year (R$51,50 in direct conversion today, 02/06), the offer is much more aggressive in the first year of use, when the cost is only US$1 (R$5,15).
In comparison, the iCloud charges R$3,50 per month for 50 GB, and Google charges R$7 per month for 100 GB. In these options, in addition to the popularity of the brands, users can make any type of backup. IDrive justifies its low price on the unlimited photo plan precisely because it only allows images, and without complex online management or editing tools.
Regarding the IDrive app, the experience is actually quite simple: it allows automatic synchronization, adjustment of backup quality, setting a password for access, and uploading only on Wi-Fi or via mobile network. It is also possible to set a battery limit percentage to suspend it automatically.
In addition to being able to share with other users, the service is lacking in its simple and not very intuitive design. It is not available in Portuguese. You need to purchase a plan through the company's website, and this type of purchase is impossible within the app – and in dollars.
