A court order from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) determined this Friday (19) that the social media accounts of federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PSL-RJ) be blocked. The parliamentarian, arrested last Tuesday (16) for publishing a video in support of AI-5, has his accounts unavailable on Facebook, Twitter e Instagram.
According to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the accounts were blocked because the congressman could maintain access to social media with illegal smartphones, thus continuing to publish offensive messages. Also yesterday (18), two cell phones were found in a suitcase of Daniel Silveira's clothes. The defense says that it "does not know how the devices ended up there." The PF's internal affairs department is questioning the congressman's visitors.
The deputy's office published, this morning, that Daniel Silveira's accounts were blocked on Facebook and Instagram. Some time later, Twitter blocked the account, claiming to comply with an investigation order from the Supreme Federal Court.
Hate crimes
On Monday (15), Daniel Silveira did a live broadcast on Facebook in which he defended AI-5, the military's harshest instrument of repression, and the dismissal of STF ministers. The video was republished on the parliamentarian's YouTube channel. The arrest warrant was issued the following day, as both practices are unconstitutional. On Thursday, the Attorney General's Office decided to maintain the arrest.
The court order, however, does not block Daniel Silveira's YouTube account, which is where most of his audience engagement comes from. The platform took down the original video for inciting hate, but other channels continue to upload the content.
