Brazilians are the ones who delay cell phone updates the most in Latin America
Do you know how important a smartphone update can be? Spoiler: lots of. It's the equivalent of having an antivirus on a computer. A survey by Kapersky sought to understand consumer behavior regarding this function that is so routine on today's cell phones. Although the study was global and involved 15 respondents, specific data reveals the behavior of Brazilian users, who tend to delay these updates.
With 15 participants worldwide, at least 500 selected are from regions such as South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, USA, Netherlands, India, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Russia and Turkey. It is from this subgroup that we extract the characteristics of local behavior. 42% of Brazilians who own a smartphone or tablet usually delay updates.
In Latin America, Brazil is simply the country with the least support for prompt updates on its smartphones. We are behind Mexico (43%), Peru (48%), Colombia and Argentina (52%) and Chile, the champion, with 54%. And the worst part: 71% of Brazilian users do not understand the risks involved in delaying updates.
Brazilians don't want to give up their cell phones
Beyond to bring new features, updates — like monthly Android patches — provide bug fixes and critical flaws that can expose user data and systems. Every month, engineers at Google — and manufacturers — discover (or receive) new issues and try to seal these exposures. The new code that closes these gaps arrives through these updates, which yes, do not always arrive at the most convenient time.
For 33% of Brazilians, the reason for the delay in updates is due to being busy with work. Another 23% simply do not want to stop doing what they are doing on their cell phone and have it unavailable for a few minutes. Another 20% simply do not want to lose apps that are running in the background or are suspended, since restarting can end the processes.
It is worth remembering that you can check your smartphone's security level directly in the settings, in the submenu dedicated to software information. There, the interface reveals the date the latest update for your phone's security was received.
It is important to pay attention to update policies from each manufacturer, since unfortunately not every brand provides monthly or bimonthly updates, leaving a greater gap between packages. Longevity of support is also vital to ensure the security of the smartphone for a few years.
