The Danish luxury goods company Bang & Olufsen has just launched the Beosound Level speaker. It is a wireless, “portable” device with five speakers, two 4-inch woofers and another 2, with low-distortion amplification and a frequency range of 23.000 Hz
Control commands can be made directly on the box activated by touch or by streaming applications such as Spotify. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 connection, Wi-Fi, support for Airplay 2 and Google Cast and integration with Google Voice Assistant.
In times where electronic devices are recurring targets of scheduled obsolescence, the Bang & Olufsen speaker comes with a “streaming module” that allows exactly the opposite, as it gives the user the possibility to update the speaker’s wireless features when they become obsolete.
The idea is this: as newer wireless technologies and more powerful digital signal processing chips are developed, the user will be able to replace them with an updated module.
Bang & Olufsen specializes in developing speakers in a variety of formats. The Beosound Level speaker model weighs 3,3 kg, has a straight design and can be supported standing up, lying down or hung on the wall and there is an adaptable fitting for this. When hanging it vertically, the speaker also changes the way it reproduces sound from 180° to 360°.
The charger in the box is magnetic. The rechargeable battery has a capacity of 16 hours, according to the manufacturer, and when activated at the volume, it is considered “normal”. The power consumption is 4 watts in standby, the estimated time for 100% charge is 3 hours and for 80%, about 2 hours. The speaker can “memorize” the user’s behavior, adjusting volume and power consumption.
The product is IP54 certified, which means it is splash and dust resistant, making it attractive for use in outdoor environments.
It comes in two color options, one in light beige, reminiscent of wood tones, and the other in dark gray fabric. The price is not at all attractive. The “wood” model costs US$ 1.799 (R$ 9.679), while the other version costs US$ 1.499 (R$ 8.064).
The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Level is now available sale on the store website. The wall mount for the speaker will be available starting April 29 for $149.
