Apple Podcasts are experiencing bugs after updating to iOS 14.5, according to users
Several users are reporting that the Apple Podcasts has been showing not only the same bugs as before, but has also introduced new bugs after the update to iOS 14.5. Complaints are mostly concentrated in the Twitter e Reddit.
Some reports mention excessive data consumption on the mobile connection, while others say that, after the update, the device's temperature got hotter than ever before. Others still point to synchronization failures between one or more devices from the Cupertino company.

“I updated [my iPhone] to iOS 14.5 and took my dog for a walk while listening to a podcast,” said user “blue0rbit” from Reddit. “I’ve been doing this for about six years, so my settings are pretty fixed. I noticed my phone getting really hot, then I got a text from my carrier saying I had used 75% of my plan. Confused, I opened the data usage spreadsheet and saw that Apple Podcasts had already surpassed 8 GB of usage.”
The user continues his story: “When I got home, I noticed that episodes from August 2020 were in the Downloads folder. That's when I checked the 'download by episode' option again and noticed that all my settings had returned to default.”
On Twitter, other reports also indicate that the Apple Podcasts have been showing various bugs: “how many updates to Apple need to do the Apple “Podcasts sync content across multiple devices?” asked user “@AndyNicolaides”. “What’s the point of having a Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone, TV, etc., if none of them sync? How come all the other [manufacturers] manage to add this except Apple? "

Problems started with iOS 14.5
A Apple released iOS 14.5 on April 26, 2021 – last Monday. Along with it, iPadOS 14.5 and macOS Big Sur 11.3 also came. The three operating systems, at least according to what the manufacturer promises, bring interoperability and synchronization of files and media between them, but when it comes to Apple Podcasts, one of the reported bugs seems to prevent this feature from working.
Some speculate that the problem lies in the new format of “Following” content creators. Previously, you subscribed to a content creator and manually added episodes of their podcast to your media library. Within iOS 14.5, in addition to the visual overhaul, Apple now “reads” who you follow and automatically adds all podcast episodes – even the ones you haven’t listened to yet – to your library. Evidently, this setting is the operating system’s default and was probably what “ate” “blue0rbit’s” data on Reddit.
Worse still, in iOS 14.5, since you can’t download episodes individually, you can’t remove them one by one from your library either. The result is a sizable list of unlistened items and no way to delete them. The workaround some people have been using is to start the podcast, exit it (so it’s marked as “listened to”), and then activate the “hide played episodes” option in the settings.

Countless other reports also point out similar issues, with most of them tagging the profile “@AppleSupport” on social media. So far, however, there has been no response from the company.
