Presented to the world by Steve Jobs in March 2011, the iPad 2, second generation of the tablet from Apple, is officially obsolete and will therefore no longer receive any support from the Cupertino company. The first step towards the product being left aside by Apple was taken in 2019, the year in which the Apple had already moved the iPad 2 to the obsolete list in almost all of the world, with the exception of two countries.
The United States and Turkey were forced by local legislation to consider the iPad 2 a 'vintage' product and therefore still subject to brand support. The situation changed in this last week of May, with the authorization being given and the Apple, ultimately moving the 2nd generation of the tablet to its list of obsolete products across the planet.
An obsolete device is one that, according to Apple, was discontinued (had its production stopped or was replaced by a later model) at least seven years ago – something that the iPad 2 could already be considered in 2019. This list includes products that have no obligation to receive hardware service from Apple or from providers authorized by the manufacturer.
What did the iPad 2 have?
Although the iPad 2 is no longer supported by authorized service centers in any country around the world, the device fulfilled its purpose. It arrived on the market in 2012 with a design that was 33% thinner than the first generation of the tablet, as well as features that impressed users at the time.
Among them, the front camera stood out, which soon became a craze for use in FaceTime, a modern processor (again, modern for the time, of course), the new generation A5 dual-core, up to nine times faster speed in graphics, gyroscope and two colors for the customer to choose from: black and white.
The iPad 2, now officially unsupported, arrived in Brazil costing from R$1.649, but the price went up to R$2.399 for customers who opted for the most complete variant, with 3G connection and 64 GB of memory. For comparison purposes, the new generation iPad, still unavailable for purchase in Brazil, will cost from R$ 10.799, with 128 GB of internal storage.
