Many were taken by surprise when the look of the new Pixel 6 was leaked for the first time. Other sources reiterate the design revamp — which already suggested a new camera arrangement and indicated a periscopic sensor in the most advanced model. Reinforcing this, the latest version of Google Camera has a lot to say: Pixel 6 XL must have long-range optical zoom.
In a reverse engineering analysis, version 8.3.252 of the exclusive photography app for Pixel phones brought hidden codes that indicate features of a model to be released in the future. This deactivated graft refers to “zoom_toggle_ultratele”, which would be the button that selects the app’s zoom level. From what is described here, the future model should reach up to 5x zoom.
It's very unlikely that this code doesn't refer to the Pixel 6 XL — which has already been leaked indicating the presence of a camera periscopic. This type of sensor occupies greater space in the body of the smartphone, but can work with much greater real approximations. Galaxy S21 Ultra and Mi 11 Ultra are some flagships that also use the technology.

So far, the only Pixel with optical zoom — the 4 — reaches 2x zoom, while the analog lens zooms to 1,6x. Google Camera code indicates that on the Pixel 6 XL, the “natural” zoom will be 4,3x — reaching 5x with software.
It is worth remembering that only the XL variant should offer optical zoom. The base model should not offer this third camera. Both models should share a 50 MP main sensor and a secondary, ultra-wide, 12 megapixel sensor. Google is still keeping the launch of the next flagships a secret — which should have custom chip of the company. But before them it is likely that the Pixel 5 to 5G reach the market.
