Airbnb accuses Google of sabotaging its traffic

November 17th, 2020

Things are not going well for Google. After the leak of documents promoting LOBBY Against European Union rules, it is now Airbnb's turn to accuse Google of sabotaging its network traffic.

In a public offering prospectus so that it can trade its shares on Nasdaq, Airbnb accuses Google of prioritizing its products and services, consequently reducing visits by Internet users to the company's website.

A report published by Gizchina says that Airbnb’s document states that “Google has launched travel and vacation rental ads. These services have had a serious impact on our SEO results. The position of our platform in organic search results for travel-related vocabulary on the Google was demoted and the position is no longer so good.”

Airbnb focuses on using SEO to position itself on search platforms, but accuses Google of “adjusting search engine algorithms or taking similar actions that are beyond our control” which would affect the platform’s ranking and traffic.

A series of problems

Google has been facing lawsuits and problems for some time now. Recently, the Turkish government fined the company $26 million for unfair competition in its advertising, and India, the United States and European Union are also investigating doing the same.

The European Union wants to regulate Internet companies and has already stated that companies like Google have too much power in the market, as the company holds a monopoly on the search engine market and, for the European Union, Google would have an unfair advantage over its competitors.
