Now it's final. He's gone up on the roof. Google Play Music has closed for good, with no way back, and no way to be stubborn about using it.
Play Music worked well, but it was a bit of a cult app, which managed to win the hearts of a handful of fans, who swore it made better discoveries than Spotify (what you write among them).
It was one among many. The Google has a long history of creating “killer apps” that don’t work as well as you’d like and end up shelved forever. Does anyone remember Wave? Talk? The much-missed Orkut?
Now, anyone who tries to open Play Music will be redirected to YouTube Music and, if you accept the invitation to transfer your lists, as recommended, it works.
Comparing
The transition is not traumatic, but there are some drawbacks. YouTube Music is starting and Google Play Music is closing. are not identical.
One, YouTube music doesn't play Musicas locations of your cell phone, if you still have the habit of storing mp3s. It's possible, but it is complicated (and you'll need a tutorial one of these days). Two, YT Music doesn't work with your phone closed, unless you buy the premium version. The late guy allowed it. And there are no uploads on YT Music (Google says it's checking the viability of the content as music).
On the positive side, the free version of Google Play Music, which has been shut down, only allowed you to listen to local music and radio stations. You can only choose individual songs in the paid version. The free version of YouTube Music lets you choose everything in the free version, with ads. The interface is also more modern. And you can see what's coming up next on the radio, instead of waiting in anticipation.
