A recent study revealed that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is able to crack approximately 51% of the most common passwords in less than a minute. This data raises questions about the security of digital passwords and the need for alternatives, such as Google's passkeys.

Passwords have long been the primary line of defense for protecting accounts and devices. However, AI has proven surprisingly effective at cracking passwords, making them vulnerable. In response to this threat, many websites now offer the option to enable two-factor authentication, adding an extra layer of protection even if your password is compromised.

Cybercriminals use social engineering to try to trick victims into revealing their passwords. For this reason, many companies have implemented other verification methods, such as geographic location, to check whether the login location corresponds to the user's known or usual location. This information is more complex for a criminal to replicate.

Even though advanced technologies such as facial recognition, fingerprint, and voice recognition exist, passwords are still requested in certain cases, such as when changing login information.

Protecting against cyber threats is a challenge for businesses. However, adopting cybersecurity management strategies that focus on digital identity can provide greater security, including multi-factor authentication and credential management for both internal and external users. These solutions help prevent phishing attacks and identity theft.

Technology can also improve the ease and security of online activities such as shopping and banking. The self-sovereign identity approach, which gives users or companies full control over their digital identity, is gaining traction as a way to return control of personal data to individuals.

We have a vision of returning full control of personal data to users. With self-sovereign identity, we see a future where every online persona is in full control of every attribute of themselves, so they can decide what information to share, with whom, and for how long.
