YouTube has updated its fast-forward feature on Android, allowing you to skip entire chapters of a video by double-tapping the screen. The new command, which also works to skip a few seconds of a video, will only work on posts that have chapter division enabled by their creators.
The feature is available starting with version 16.31.35 of YouTube for Android and should be available to all users soon. In addition to double-tapping, YouTube has recently implemented a feature on some devices that lets you fast forward and rewind video display by gestures. This way, there is no need to click on the bottom bar of the player, simply drag your finger to the right of the screen to advance or to the left to rewind. The feature can be used with just one hand, which makes the user experience easier.
New Monetization Tools
In addition to the new usability features, last week YouTube also brought new monetization tools of content for creators. The initiative involves a fund of US$ 100 million (more than R$ 500 million) to be distributed among Shorts content creators – a format competing with Reels and TikTok, between 2021 and 2022.
Google's video platform also plans to increase advertiser revenue for content creators by offering a larger portion of YouTube Premium revenue, as well as creating a subscription-only platform where subscribers can pay a monthly fee to support their favorite content. These features are expected to be enhanced with a monetization tool called Super Chats for live streams and premieres. With Super Chat, fans can purchase colored messages that are highlighted in the live chat of videos, and the message will be pinned to the top of the chat for up to 5 hours.
