YouTube is testing a new feature to make life easier for users, a way to speed up the preview of videos forward or backward. In version 16.31.34 of the YouTube app for Android, some users You've noticed the presence of a new floating control. There's already a shortcut to fast-forward or rewind videos: just double-tap on either side of the player. Or simply drag the red bubble in the playback line to the desired time.

The new floating control, however, appears on YouTube when the user presses a point in the video. A gray bubble appears, which can be dragged back or forward to change the moment of the content. The user only needs to slide their finger after long-tapping the screen to control playback.

Restricted testing

With the floating control, everything indicates that YouTube is about to gain a new practical and accessible feature. This could save effort for those who use their smartphone with one hand. But for now, Google has chosen a select group of users to test the function. Even those who update now to the latest version of the app or join the beta program may not find the feature available.

It's worth remembering that other new features on YouTube include testing a intermediate premium plan and new tools for Shorts — its rival to TikTok. At the moment the floating control has not been verified on iOS. On the OS Apple, Google's latest news involves dark mode for google maps.

Additionally, YouTube seems concerned about making the platform more rentable for content creators After all, TikTok, Instagram and Twitch compete for influencers who can bring more users.
