With the advancement of vaccination against coronavirus, the rules for combating the disease have become more flexible in the United States. This allows companies and businesses to decide some of their protocols against Covid-19 and now the Yelp app will have special seals to indicate this.

Yelp is a large directory of restaurants, stores, markets and other establishments. With this, customers will be able to find out what types of rules need to be followed at the location, such as wearing a mask or having to present a passport.the certificate proving vaccination.

This is currently only valid in the US, where measures vary across states and cities. Starting next week, badges such as “Proof of vaccination required” and “Fully vaccinated staff” will be available, making it easier to understand the rules.

Yelp with new warnings

The Yelp team is also bracing for potential backlash, as some establishments that require vaccination against Covid-19 may suffer retaliation with negative evaluations on the service from groups that are against prevention measures.

Because of this, the company announced that it will use a combination of systems moderation, with humans and artificial intelligence to protect companies from potential cyberattacks. Yelp says it has been dealing with this since the beginning of the pandemic and has been able to improve the system since then.

Basically, when there are mass complaints registered at a given establishment, the app can send a notification to the person responsible for the establishment and also to customers who are researching the location. The notice says that unusual activity was registered that may have lowered the rating of that place.

After that, a human review of the reviews will be performed. During this period, the app may prevent new ratings from being registered. Yelp says that in the last year, it has removed more than 4.500 inaccurate reviews (from people who did not visit the location) during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s important for consumers to have a resource for relevant, first-hand information when engaging with a business. You could argue that this is even more important during a public health crisis, making reviews of relevant, first-hand consumer experiences more relevant,” said Noorie Malik, the company’s vice president of user operations.
