A selection of Honor devices have been added to the HarmonyOS compatibility list, operational system from Huawei. These phones could already count on the beta version of the software and will now be able to use the final version of the system.
Included in the list are smartphones such as the Honor 20 series and Honor View 20 (from our featured image), which currently run Android. The phones were released when Honor was still owned by Huawei and before the former owner began to suffer sanctions promoted by the United States government. In addition to having Google's operating system, the devices also appeared before HarmonyOS was revealed.
It's unclear whether people using an eligible Honor phone can immediately update their handsets, or whether HarmonyOS is slowly rolling out to these devices. current information are that this permission for Huawei software is occurring on Honor phones in China, which would likely be the first place to receive the update.
Beware, Android
This is the first time non-Huawei phones running Google's operating system have access to the HarmonyOS update. Some of the Honor handsets on the list have access to Google Mobile Services, including the Play Store, Gmail and Maps, which the Huawei sanctions initiated in mid-2019, removed from devices linked to the company (therefore, including Honor brand cell phones).
The announced compatibility is an interesting sign of the growing presence of HarmonyOS. Even more so considering that, as we recently reported, other Chinese brands have become interested in the compatriot's operating system (which would leave Google's system aside). Other rumors have even indicated that future Nokia cell phones could appear running HarmonyOS, something denied by HMD Global (owner of the Finnish brand). In any case, it is good to keep an eye on the evolution of Huawei's operating system.
