WhatsApp will allow you to archive conversations and groups forever, even if you have already muted the chats. This permanent archiving feature was already available, but now when you mute a group, a new message doesn't unmute it again, it stays in an archived items tab for you to consult whenever you want.

Those who use WhatsApp a lot can use the archive chats feature to organize their main inbox. Before this update, if someone sent a message to an archived chat or group, the conversation would end up back in the main area, which could be quite annoying.

Now, by clicking on Settings and then Chats, you can see the Keep Chats Archived option, which is already enabled by default in WhatsApp. If new messages now arrive in archived chats, they will remain muted and in the archive unless you unarchive them.

“Archive in WhatsApp lets you organize your private messages and prioritize important conversations. Archived chats will remain archived and muted, but you can always bring them back!”

It's easy to bring archived messages and groups back to the main feed

It's worth remembering once again that, with this update, you will only receive messages from archived conversations if someone in the group replies to a message from you, or mentions you directly. So, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your messages to make sure you're not missing anything important. To read messages from an archived group again, just go to the Archived Conversations folder in WhatsApp Settings and open the chosen group.

WhatsApp recently also made an important change to message sharing. The messenger now limits forwarded messages for five groups or conversations at a time, an action to try to control the spread of fake news. In addition, Google is testing a feature that will allow transfer WhatsApp chats between Android and iOS.
