The community of Free Fire is huge, especially here in Brazil. One recent Twitter search which shows the popularity of mobile games in the world, revealed that the game from provider Garena is the sixth most popular in our country. And now, Free Fire has just reached the impressive milestone of 1 billion downloads on the Play Store.
First Battle Royale game for mobile with 1 billion downloads on the Play Store
The Battle Royale released in 2017 is the first game of its kind for mobile devices to reach this number of downloads on Play Store. Not to mention the App Store, where the numbers were not revealed. Along with this new achievement, a new event will be launched next month to celebrate the game's fourth anniversary.
One of the reasons that may have helped the title reach this milestone on Google's app service was the easy access players had to the game. Most smartphones meet the requirements to download Free Fire, as it is compatible with devices running Android 4.1 or higher.

It is worth remembering that the competitor PUBG Mobile surpassed the 1 billion downloads mark (combining Android and iOS users) in March of this year, with a little over 500 million downloads on the Play Store alone. Meanwhile, Call of Duty Mobile (Activision's game released in 2019) reached 500 million downloads on May 2021.
Free Fire's popularity grew in 2020
It is important to say that before reaching these numbers on the Play Store, in 2020 alone, the year the pandemic began to spread, Free Fire had more than 610 million registered players on Android and iOS devices.
In addition, the game grossed an incredible US$3,2 billion (more than R$16 billion in direct conversion) last year. In the same period, the game registered an average of more than 60 million active users simultaneously.
