OnePlus had announced recently that the new OnePlus Buds Pro headphones would be launched with the OnePlus North 2 5G. What was missing, then, was some information about the headphones and, mainly, their differences in relation to their predecessor, launched last year.

In an email interview with CNet, Kinder Liu, head of research and development at company, revealed some of the main features of the OnePlus Buds Pro. Among them, in addition to noise cancellation, the fact that this function is adjusted automatically stands out.

How the new technology will work

The adaptive noise cancellation adjustment of the new headphones from OnePlus is due to its three microphones, which continuously monitor sounds from the environment in which they are located. From this, they generate the necessary frequencies to prevent external noises from disturbing the user when listening to music or participating in meetings, for example. The self-adjustment provided by the microphones, in fact, varies between 15 dB and 40 dB.

Accessing automatic noise cancellation is quite simple. According to Liu, simply press the stem of the headphones to turn the function on or off. This can be done, alternatively, through HeyMelody, the app used to control OnePlus wireless headphones, and after Fusion, from Oppo. Contrary to what one might think, the headphones are not the result of the merger of the companies — Liu assures that their development began in July 2020.

But this new feature ends up having a considerable impact on the battery life of the OnePlus Buds Pro. According to Liu, if adaptive noise cancellation is kept off, the battery can last up to 38 hours straight. If it remains on, however, this number drops to 28 hours. When compared to its predecessors, which lasted a maximum of 30 hours, the autonomy of the new headphones is more encouraging.

To counterbalance this, however, OnePlus decided to bring the technology Warp Charge, which provided fast wireless charging of its smartphones to the headphones. In practice, the company claims that a mere 10 minutes inside the headphones case guarantees 10 hours of use, with the added advantage of being able to use any USB-C cable. The case, by the way, unfortunately does not support this type of wireless charging as it is limited to a charging power of 2 W — significantly lower than the 10 W of Warp Charge.

Price of new headphones remains a mystery

While we know the headphones will launch on July 22 alongside the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, OnePlus has yet to reveal the price of the accessories. It’s worth remembering that much of the success of the OnePlus Buds was due to their unique combination of low price and high performance.

The significant improvements found in the OnePlus Buds Pro, then, may be a cause for concern, as their price may no longer be as attractive. But it is also possible that the company will surprise us in this regard and the headphones, exclusively in black, will repeat the results of their predecessor.
