Excited after Twitter offered again the verification seal for accounts? Well, you can also request it directly through Instagram. You still need to meet visibility requirements, that is, be a big brand, influencer, or public figure. Ultimately, it’s up to them to choose, but you can make your case more convincing. See how below.

How to apply for Instagram verification badge

If you think you deserve the blue verification badge on your Instagram account, it all starts in the Android or iOS app. With it open, follow these steps:

  • Go to your profile
  • Click on the menu at the top right
  • Open the “Settings” option
  • In this menu, access “Account”
  • Expand the “Request verification” option

Once this is done, the work of proving the merits that would qualify you for a verified account begins. The first step is to confirm the user's authenticity, which involves filling in the user's full name and also a valid document in the national territory.

This document needs to be photographed and attached to the form, and can be a driver's license, passport, ID, a tax return, recent utility bill, or even a company bylaw.

In the second stage, those interested in the Instagram verification badge must confirm in which area they believe they are a notable user: media, sports, government, music, fashion, entertainment... and many others. With this done, it is time to optionally describe what your audience is like on the social network, notable people who follow you, and what interests your profile arouses in the audience.

You can also optionally list nicknames or pseudonyms that you are known by on and off Instagram. This should help the verification team research more about you and your influence online.

Finally, it’s time to attach links that confirm your notability. These can be a verified social network, news article, or other. This step is also optional — but the more complete your application, the less likely it is to leave any gaps in your claim. You can attach up to five links here.

Ready to go? Then it’s time to submit your verification request to Instagram. It can take weeks for a response, and if your request isn’t approved, you’ll be notified in the app’s notifications tab — and you’ll only be able to try again within 30 days.

If your request is approved, congratulations: your profile will now be shown in searches, recommendations, and even directly on your page with a verification badge next to your username. Just like on Twitter, Facebook, and others, this serves to show the authenticity of your profile — and of course, to boost your ego a little.

Notices

It is worth remembering that after verifying your profile, you can no longer change your username. So if you are not happy with your current username, it is best to do so before the procedure. And while on Twitter you do not need to be really popular to have a blue badge, on Instagram be very well informed that here your relevance in searches and accesses counts a lot to highlight your account.

Despite being a Facebook product, the verification seal for Instagram does not guarantee the same for the social network created by Mark Zuckerberg. This is because each platform has its own analysis criteria.

Finally, it is important to note that account verification may be lost if the user locks and unlocks the profile several times — an unspecified number. Violations of the terms of use or application guidelines may also result in the loss of the badge.
