All about the best cell phones

Users who opt in to receive WhatsApp betas check out a series of features first, and one of the next should be the sending of images in higher quality. The same goes for videos: WhatsApp is testing, but this is not visible to users, the sending of images and other files in higher quality, that is, without the typical compression of the application. The discovery came after the work of reverse engineering in version 2.21.14.16 of the Android app.

When officially implemented — if nothing changes — WhatsApp users will be able to send higher quality videos and images by changing the messenger's settings. Currently, it is in the data storage submenu that it is possible to enable or disable sending without compression. There are three options available.

Do you like the idea of testing new features early? On Android, it’s relatively easy to participate in testing future versions of apps. On the Play Store, if such a program is available, simply sign up for it on the app’s page.

Let the app decide

In the first case, WhatsApp itself will decide whether to send the photo or video without compression — possibly by observing whether the sender is on a Wi-Fi network or using mobile data. In the other two cases, the user manually decides whether, regardless of the connection and internal storage, to send the images in higher quality, or whether to always transmit the compressed files.

WhatsApp tests sending images in higher quality

For now, not even beta users have access to the feature. It is not clear yet whether WhatsApp will give the recipient the option to automatically compress files to save data and storage space. If there is no such control, the messenger already allows any media received to be downloaded manually — displaying its total size before downloading.
