The NickWatch was disclosed officially by executives from CBS Networks International (VCNI), a division of ViacomCBS, during the 2021 edition of MWC (Mobile World Congress), an event being held in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

CEO Raffaele Annecchino confirmed that NickWatch's target audience is indeed children and young people, and stated what he expects in terms of brand expansion. “This strategic product launch will leverage our IP and content to further strengthen our position as a leading commercial partner with multiple consumer touchpoints, creating a new immersive experience.”

The experience will make content available in different formats directly on the arm of the child or pre-teen using the wearable. According to the brand, NickWatch will provide “fun photo filters, motion sound effects and musical instruments that play according to hand movements”.

Parental control is one of the attractions

Viacom's smartwatch with Nickelodeon will also come with the function intended for parental control. The product's presentation at MWC 2021 ensured that those responsible will know everything that is happening on their children's wrists, with real-time identification of what is downloaded and where they are.

“A map feature will allow caregivers and family members to see everyone in the family’s current location via GPS, Wi-Fi and cell towers, simply by downloading the app on their device. The parent or caregiver can send a text message to the child from their phone, and children can respond with pre-written responses, voice-to-text, emojis or photos,” Annecchino explained.

Viacom's smartwatch with Nickelodeon content allows children to call their parents and contacts saved in their directory in advance, and also receive voice calls only from this pre-selected list. This feature is monitored by parents, precisely to know when and with whom their children are communicating.

Regular content updates with new games, stickers, sound effects and more will be added continuously, according to the brand. The Viacon smartwatch with Nickelodeon content is expected to go on sale in January or February 2020, but there is still no precise information about the price that will be charged for the accessory.
