All about the best cell phones

Snapchat is removing one of its most popular filters in the US: the speed filter. The social network is known for this type of feature that makes short videos even funnier and even more interactive, but this filter in question was a bit problematic and put users of the app at risk of death.

Snapchat's speed filter allowed users to record videos while running or driving, so the feature would show how fast the user was going. As you might expect, some users got into accidents using the tool, and this led to legal problems for the company behind the app (as it did for another resource your).

While critics of the filter called for it to be scrapped, Snapchat defended the use of the tool. To get around the problems caused by its misuse, the company made small changes to the filter, including turning the feature into a less visible sticker, adding a “do not Snap while driving” warning, and limiting the recorded speed to 50 km/h.

All of Snapchat's changes to its speed filter have not reduced the risks, much less stopped the legal problems. The company has continued to receive lawsuits from families whose victims were misused in the app, resulting in car accidents.

Still, that wasn't enough for the company to remove the feature from its social network. National Public Radio from the US even questioned the company behind the app about why it had not removed the filter yet and remained unanswered for a long time. Recently, a representative announced that the filter will be removed and justified it by claiming that “it is falling into disuse, so we are removing it”.
