Analysts indicate that the merger with Oppo, announced by Pete Lau (CEO and founder of OnePlus) this week, could leverage the brand's offline presence in the market, in a move to expand OnePlus into IoT products. The companies, which belong to the BBK Electronics group, were already in tune some time ago and, as the announcement from the president of OnePlus makes clear, the integration takes on even deeper dimensions.

This is where market impressions are being placed about OnePlus strengthening its position not only in the mobile device universe, but also in the Internet of Things (IoT) field. Lau said that the merger with Oppo will bring OnePlus more resources, generating possibilities for improved efficiency and product creation.

Additionally, Pete Lau also claims that OnePlus will continue to operate independently. Along the same lines, a company spokesperson said that in markets where both companies operate, OnePlus will continue to compete in the same way as before.

OnePlus gains access to Oppo's R&D resources

Industry and market intelligence analysts believe that the merger will allow the OnePlus brand to fuel its next wave of growth, given that the company will be able to access Oppo's R&D resources. The possibility of the two companies joining forces on the software and services side, including IoT, is another plus generated by the integration. A synergy between the companies' hardware and software can be seen in the OnePlus 9 series in China (the handsome phone in our featured image), which uses Oppo's Color OS. However, it is worth remembering that, according to Pete Lau himself, OnePlus will continue to work with Oppo OXYGEN, based on Android, even after the merger with Oppo.

On the operating system side, the impression is that OnePlus could also be helped by leveraging Oppo's R&D, which will allow for faster updates. Analysts also mention that the companies could merge their operations in the mid-range/premium segment, in series such as the Nord (OnePlus) and Reno (Oppo), for example.
