A survey carried out by the Twitter platform in Brazil showed that social network is the best place for the LGBTQIA+ community to express themselves. With numbers presented, the study showed that the environment on Twitter is the most welcoming, where authenticity is most accepted.

The results are based on responses from 500 people from the LGBTQIA+ community here in Brazil who use Twitter and who answered online questionnaires in March of this year. social network was considered the preferred option for conversations on relevant topics, with space to give visibility to important issues and engagement on topics that concern the community.

The study numbers

Four out of five LGBTQIA+ people believe that the platform is a place where people can be themselves. 79% of people in the community use Twitter to share their experiences, thoughts and opinions.

75% of respondents believe that Twitter allows the community to create its own narrative. Along these lines, almost 70% believe that the social network is where LGBTQIA+ people feel comfortable expressing their own ideas and opinions, with 73% of respondents considering that Twitter enables people in the community to unite.

Over 70% think Twitter is the best platform ever

The study found that 72% of LGBTQIA+ people see Twitter as better than others platforms in the “content about my community” category. The most cited reason was “younger/open/diverse audience”, followed by “freedom to be who I am” and “diversity of opinions”. At this point, it is interesting to note that other platforms have at least been concerned with the topic. For example, when we remember that Tumblr announced itself as The most Queer platform on the internet last month after implementing an anti-NSFW.

Regarding the type of use that people in the LGBTQIA+ community make within the platform, 83% said they log in to see funny or viral tweets aimed at the community. Meanwhile, 81% follow news, topics and causes, 79% seek to connect with other people and 67% follow leaders and influencers related to the cause.

This LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, reinforcing support for the community, Twitter Brazil launched a special emoji, with a stylized rainbow that appears when the user tweets with the hashtag #OrgulhoSempre. So that we don't just stick to social media platforms during this important month, we can mention an update from TIM on its conscious keyboard app. In the tool aimed at combating prejudice, 500 LGBTphobic terms were inserted in the most recent update. And we cannot forget the Apple, which launched a special edition of bracelets in honor of Pride Month LGBTQIA+ for your Apple Watch.
