After launching the TicWatch GTH — with body temperature meter — Mobvoi turns its efforts to a more traditional looking model, with circular screen. The TicWatch E3 has been announced as the newest smartwatch to run Wear OS — recently embraced by Samsung. The device has a simple design and features a wide range of apps focused on the user's health.

Running the processor Snapdragon Wear 4100, this should be reflected in slightly higher performance and energy optimization than other models on the market, which since 2016 have relied on SoCs such as Qualcomm's Wear 2100 and 3100. Even so, the TicWatch E3 is unlikely to provide more than two days of battery life before requiring a charger, given its 380 mAh battery.

This is a limitation that more complete products — those that run a complete OS with apps — have compared to smartbands that promise weeks of battery life. Mobvoi promises energy-saving modes that will extend usage for an unspecified period of time. Other hardware specifications include a 1,3-inch HD display with 360 x 360 resolution, Bluetooth 5.0, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage.

NFC at a competitive price

Running a complete system — Wear OS — it would make little sense if there were no NFC for contactless payments. There is compatibility with Google Pay. Also betting on health apps, the TicWatch E3 has software for managing blood saturation (the famous oximeter), monitoring heart rate — and TicZen to measure stress levels from this — and monitoring sleep quality. TicExercise is the way for the user to record their physical activities, with more than 20 exercises. The device can also detect noise pollution and alert the owner about this possible source of disturbances.

Launched at US$200 (R$1 in direct conversion today, 16/06), Mobvoi's TicWatch E3 is priced considerably below competitors from bigger brands — such as the Galaxy Watch 3 ($400) and the Apple Watch SE ($280). A new option on the market running Wear OS, the model is already being sold in the United States.
