This Saturday (05/06), we celebrate World Environment Day, and with the purpose of combating the drastic climate changes that affect the planet, Twitter revealed that it has joined forces with organizations that fight for this cause and will run campaigns that raise awareness about this crisis that seems to have no end. The social network released a new topic related to climate change. This way, when you follow the topic, tweets related to the topic will appear on the main page.

In addition to this new topic, Twitter announced partnerships with some organizations that fight for a more sustainable world with a greater mobilization on issues involving the planet, through the social responsibility campaign #AdsForGood. Among these organizations are the famous WWF, Greenpeace e United Nations (UN) Environment Program. In addition, the company stated that it will commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in partnership with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an organization that promotes climate action.

Twitter partnership with the NGO Cool Effect

Twitter's statement also says that the social network has teamed up with the NGO Cool Effect, which has sustainability projects that help reduce and offset carbon emissions into the atmosphere: "We are committed to protecting the environment by reducing our carbon footprint and using our services to make a positive difference in the world. We continue to work towards our goal of achieving 100% carbon-neutral energy use in our current data centers by the end of 2022." The company stated that to date, 92% of its offices have the sustainable construction standard (Green Building Certified).

Knowing the enormous impact of opinions on social media, Twitter encouraged users to participate in order to promote and interact with causes. “From volunteering with an environmental organization to learning more about how to protect our planet, there are many ways to get involved. Promote sustainable causes and ideas and join the conversation,” Twitter said, also promoting the hashtag #WorldEnvironmentDay so that users can stay up to date with news and information on how to help the causes that need it most.
