Technology companies each other's throats. The most recent example of this is the suspensão of YouTube TV on Roku devices, alleging anti-competitive policies on the part of Google.
Google and Roku failed to reach an agreement after the search engine company changed the terms of use of its IPTV platform. As a result, the app was removed from the store. Roku accuses the company of using its power to pressure partners and gain access to sensitive user data. Those who already have the app installed will not be affected, but new consumers will not be able to find YouTube TV in the app market. In the end, it is the user who is most affected, being prevented from using it.
To temporarily get around this, Google announced that it is inserting a shortcut into the main YouTube app so that subscribers and new consumers can use the company's IPTV. The link is listed as the last option in the side menu, and apparently the Mountain View giant improvised the implementation of its TV system in the main service, challenging Roku.
By taking on this fight, it is not known whether YouTube will suffer any retaliation. In Brazil, the OS has already launched some TV boxes and has teamed up with brands to include its system on Smart TVs. Even though there isn't much talk about the company here yet, Google will hardly be able to give up having YouTube TV on Roku: it's basically the most used for TVs in the United States and Canada, essential markets for any technology company that wants to make its product successful.
