TikTok is now part of the Technology Coalition, an organization that works to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. The social network announced that the partner will help to more easily identify cases of child abuse on the platform.

“Through this partnership, we hope to deepen our evidence-based approach to intervention and contribute our unique learnings in addressing child safety and exploitation,” announced the company.

According to the announcement, the main change should be in training TikTok staff to learn how to intervene in cases of sexual exploitation of children on the app. The Chinese company also said it hopes other networks will take similar initiatives as a “global challenge requires a collective response.”

TikTok against child sexual exploitation

TikTok has had problems with minors on its platform before. Despite being banned from using the service for children under 13, the company has been accused of doing little to prevent under-XNUMXs from using the service. TikTok has also been accused of being aa network that can be used by criminals in an attempt to sexually exploit children due to its playful nature. Because of this, the company began to highlight more effectively your measures to combat this.

“We do not tolerate content or behavior that perpetuates the abuse, harm, danger, or exploitation of minors, as outlined in our Community Guidelines. If we become aware of any such content, we will take immediate action to remove the content, terminate accounts, and report cases to NCMEC and law enforcement as appropriate,” the announcement added.

In 2019 the app was fined by the US Federal Trade Commission for illegally collecting information from children in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. In late April, the The United Kingdom has filed a similar lawsuit.
