All about the best cell phones

Until a few years ago, it was still quite common to find smartphones with digital TV and FM radio in the Brazilian market. Nowadays, not so much. Of the best-known companies, only Motorola offers audio station features on its smartphones, in addition to late LG Mobile and some basic Nokia features. Returning to Motorola, the company announced that it is prepared for an important change in transmissions — the arrival of extended band — which will be promoted by the Federal Government.

The Ministry of Communications has announced that it will work with an extended FM tuning band to accommodate radio stations that will migrate from the AM system. Of course, it was necessary to expand the availability of “channels”, which is why tuning will soon begin at 76,1 MHz instead of 87,7 MHz. With this, manufacturers of car audio systems, home radios, and even cell phone companies will have to adapt. Motorola, however, is warning that its smartphones have been prepared for this expansion for some time.

Therefore, those who are used to listening to the radio on their cell phones should receive the transmission of new stations soon, when technical details of the extended band are completed. According to Motorola, the following devices are prepared for the extended FM radio band:

  • All Moto G7, G8 and G9
  • Moto G10 and G30 (no G60 and G100)
  • Moto G 5G Line
  • Motorola One Vision or later
  • Motorola Edge (except Edge Plus)
  • Moto E7 Plus
Internet radio is an alternative

Newly released, some Motorola smartphones will be left out of the extended range. This is simply because they do not have a native FM radio tuner. This is a tool that requires additional hardware, and some manufacturers no longer bet on it within the much-disputed internal space of smartphones, which are increasingly thinner.

With operations scheduled to begin in May, many radio stations already have their own apps on the Play Store and App Store. There are even apps that are great centralizers of stations on the internet. Of course, the feature — when present natively — does not impact data consumption, which is interesting for those who need to save on their data plan.
