All about the best cell phones

The Realme 7 5G arrived in Brazil at the beginning of the month, and abroad the company has already made the Realme 8 5G official. Although the nomenclature of the smartphones suggests upgrades, things are not like that in reality: the new cell phone brings a set extremely similar to its “predecessor”, with a more significant change in processor.

The use of quotation marks above is because the Realme 8 5G does not appear to have been designed to replace the recently launched device in Brazil: it swaps the more powerful Dimensity 800U chip for the Dimensity 700. Both have 5G and 7nn connectivity. The lithographic process optimizes energy consumption and helps the processing cores communicate more quickly.

Another downgrade is on the screen: from 120Hz we went to 90Hz. We have a 6,5-inch LCD display with full HD resolution. The cuts continue with the absence of an ultra-wide lens and a 4K mode for videos. Here, there is a 48 MP main sensor, with auxiliary lenses for portrait and macro mode. Selfies are provided by the 16 megapixel lens.

With 128 GB of internal storage in all its versions, the Realme 8 5G has 4 GB of RAM in the most basic model and 8 GB in the most expensive. The manufacturer boasts the technology developed that is capable of borrowing part of the disk to “transform” it into RAM memory. Thus, the base model could reach 5 GB, and the most advanced, 11 GB.

One good news regarding the launch is that the SIM tray is not hybrid: the slot is Dual-SIM and there is a dedicated space for microSD. It has Android 11 out of the box. The battery is 5.000 mAh, something common in mid-range devices. The maximum charging is 18W. This is yet another setback even when compared to the Realme 8 4G, which comes with a 30W accessory in the set.

Competitive price

With hardware that doesn't even remotely seem to represent advances in relation to other products from the company itself, the Realme 8 5G seems to be betting on price: it is the equivalent of R$1.096 (in direct conversion today, 22/04, without counting taxes etc., but less than half the price of the 7 5G) for the 4 GB model. Basically, a 5G that weighs very little on the pocket.

The Chinese company, however, will launch a Pro model, and hardware updates are expected there. For now, the current launch will hit the Thai market. and indian. Pre-sale ends on 03/05 and the cell phone is available in blue and black.
