Google continues to bring new features to its podcast platform. After reach 100 million downloads On Google Podcasts, the company will allow users to customize recommendations for new shows based on what they're listening to. The feature is currently in Beta on Android and should be released soon.

According to Google, the player for the smartphone version of Google Podcasts will gain a new icon. Next to the 30-second forward button, a heart will appear to mark episodes as favorites. When you add a program to this list, you can access the settings and mark it so that Google can suggest episodes and programs similar to your favorites.

Control what appears in your feed

Google will also add “show less” features and an “Explore” tab that will recommend shows based on your tastes and the most downloaded shows by the community.

You can also access the personalized recommendations system through the Google Podcasts settings. Just look for the “More, less and blocked programs” option to access your activity history, where you can block or favorite old programs that you have already listened to.

According to Google, the customization capability is now available to users who have version 12.15 Beta of Google Podcasts installed on their Android.

The new features arrive the same week as the Facebook and Apple have announced plans to expand their podcast platforms. Apparently, the media still has a lot of room to grow in the coming months. Apparently, Google is aware of this and is working every day to improve the app. At the end of 2020, the company released an update that allows users to include RSS feeds on the platform. Until then, only podcasts that were partners of Google or that had previously registered were available on the app.
