Despite recent poor results, HTC is unlikely to follow the same path same path as LG and put a end in its mobile phone segment, moving on to new challenges in 2021. At least that's what the most recent article published by the website indicated Digitimes. On Friday (09/04), sources who requested anonymity told the vehicle that HTC is preparing new models of 5G cell phones for the second half of 2021.

The Taiwanese website, which specializes in publishing information about companies in the country (such as HTC), is betting big that the 5G models will come with more features than the Desire line models, which were announced without much fanfare by the manufacturer in January of this year. The focus of HTC's new phones would be, in addition to the local market, smaller centers in Europe and the Middle East, places where the brand's reach is still considered good by executives.

The latest models launched on the market by the Taiwanese manufacturer were, in addition to the Desire 21, U20 5G, intermediary that arrived in 2020 to compete with the more affordable models from Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo, but without being able to bother them too much. The idea, now, is to position their smartphones at least in the middle of this fight, but with more weapons.

VR and AR on the way?

There is little, if any, information about the specifications that HTC's new 5G cell phone models would show to the market. An interesting detail also leaked this Friday is that HTC doesn't just want to live on cell phones in 2021. The company would also be developing products in Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) for the second semester.

This would be an alternative formula found by the Taiwanese company to give a upgrade in recipes, which closed the first quarter of 2021 with a drop of 11,63% compared to the same period last year, despite the increase of 5,2% in March. The increase would certainly serve to give HTC some breathing room to focus on new cell phone models and keep the segment running, at least until December of this year.
