The design of the iPad is responsible for much of the device's success. Apple, but original idea for the product was already very different. This is what the images of a prototype abandoned by the brand and, finally, revealed by a leaker, Giulio Zompetti, show. He posted images on Twitter that revealed what the original design of the Apple for your tablet.

“iPad, first generation prototype. Initially, the Apple planned to feature a dual-dock system on its first tablet. The secondary port was situated on the left side of the device. Simultaneous charging was apparently supported. This feature was removed in a later DVT (Design Verification Test) stage,” explained Zompetti, who is a collector of technology prototypes, as reported by iMore website.

The collector posted images from all angles of the abandoned project Apple, showing that the prototype of the first iPad would have two 30-pin connectors – a system used before the change to the Lightning charging system in 2012. According to the leaker, this system allowed the use of ports for simultaneous charging on the iPad that was never sold by the manufacturer, in addition to the use of an additional keyboard.

Steve Jobs' order?

The information revealed along with the prototype of what would be the first iPad model also explained why – or rather, who – was responsible for the Apple to have abandoned the project: Steve Jobs. According to the article, it was Steve Jobs, co-founder of the company, who made the decision on the eve of the launch, when the product had already been approved by the DVT.

Abandoned prototype aside, the Apple, has recently been working on a series of innovations for the next generation of iPad, which is expected to be officially announced next April. In addition to a new chip, the A14X, it could come in two size variations, 11 and 12,9 inches (the latter with Mini-LED technology). Apple may also incorporate new technologies internal features in the new iPad Pro, such as Thunderbolt connectivity, which is faster and more powerful and has already been deployed in testing.
