The new patent in the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) is called Scene Camera. And its goal is to provide the future Apple Glass with holograms. Not a filter on the lenses, but a projection.
“Virtual reality systems may display stereoscopic scenes to users to create an illusion of depth, and a computer may adjust the content of the scene in real time to provide the illusion of the user moving within it,” the patent says. The patent did not specify how the holograms would be included within the system. Apple Glass in the designs that are being developed for future smart glasses. She indicated, however, that for this particular model the Scene Camera would be mounted via projectors on the sides of the device, facing the inner surfaces of the lenses.

“The lens includes a holographic medium recorded with one or more transmission holograms that diffract a portion of the scene light that is directed at the user’s eyes to the scene camera. Thus, the scene camera captures images of the environment from substantially the same perspective as the user’s eyes,” part of the patent explained.
Holograms would be generated in the Apple Ice cream as the user moves. The scene cameras would change what they are showing to make the virtual 3D environment increasingly more real. The images may, for example, be analyzed to locate edges and objects in the scene. In some embodiments, the images may also be analyzed to determine depth information for the scene. The information obtained from the analysis may, for example, be used to place virtual content in appropriate locations in the mixed reality view provided by the retina directly in the projector system.”
There is still no exact date for when the glasses will be released. Apple reach the market, but, due to the various patents already registered, which indicate, among other functions, that of being self-cleaning, unlock other devices of the brand, detect sounds, darken the lenses and, until, correct vision problems, it will probably be very interesting (and not very cheap). We just have to wait for the next chapters… and patents.
