All about the best cell phones

Google reported that all devices in the series Pixel phones, starting with the Google Pixel 3, have completed the process to receive the MDF security certificate, one of the most rigorous currently on the market, designed for priority targets for invasions, such as executives and government employees. This confirmation makes the manufacturer the first in the smartphone segment to comply with the most recent and complete security update available.

“We believe in making security and privacy accessible to all of our users. That’s why we take great care to ensure that Pixel devices meet or exceed these certification standards. We’re committed to meeting these standards in the future, so you can be confident that your Pixel phone comes with next-generation security built in, from the moment you turn it on,” Google said in a statement.

What is the MDF certificate?

The MDF security certificate for mobile phones, pioneered by Google for the line phones Pixel was developed by the Common Criteria Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile to “analyze real-world threats facing consumers and businesses.”

According to Google, the protections guaranteed by the security certificate include “network espionage and attacks, physical access, malicious or flawed applications, and persistent presence.” They would work through six different features, each with a predetermined function. See a summary of the functions of each one below:

Data encryption in transit (protects Wi-Fi and network communications), data encryption at rest (provided by the Titan M system-on-chip, protects Android), authorization and authentication (including passwords, PINs, or biometric unlocks), device integrity (verifying system updates), auditability (allows the user to manage keys and log events), and configuration (gives the user or enterprise administrator the power to enforce security policies, via Android Enterprise).
