More news for WhatsApp: there are rumors that the messaging app most criticized at the moment is working on password encryption for Google Drive backups. Both cloud protection features will be available for both iOS and Android.
The informant WBetaInfo, known for his reliable leaks, showed in a tweet four screenshots of the new feature in action, two on each operating system. The screenshots also show that the password will be used for future access to backups on other devices. He also informs that the protection features will be completely private and will not be sent via WhatsApp, nor to Google Drive – in fact, they will not be sent to anyone. The screenshot shows that the password will not be recoverable.
As previously, @WhatsApp is working on cloud backups encryption.
The chat database and media will be safe from unauthorized access when using a password. The password is private and it's not sent to WhatsApp.

Until now, the only way to protect access to your data was to ensure that your number was not cloned. Like WhatsApp, Google Drive had already been working on a own encryption script, but the feature would only prevent access to files in the cloud. A user who was installing and configuring the messenger on a new device would have access to the backup with a simple code via SMS.
There is no indication of when the new password-protected image feature will go live. Since this is a leak, it is possible that the feature will undergo modifications before its official release. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to prevent dissatisfied users stop migrate to the competition after the platform announced that it will maintain its new privacy policies.
