We don't even have eyes for this: a recent YouTube update allows users to watch videos in 4K, even if their device doesn't have that resolution straight from the factory. According to two users do Reddit, the feature allows you to upload videos in up to 2160p (i.e. 4K) and 60 frames per second, and it's quietly making its way to Android devices.

Previously, the app limited the video resolution to the resolution of the screen it was streaming to. Now, YouTube uploads videos in higher resolutions than it supports, including 4K. For those wondering if this makes any difference, what you can notice is greater sharpness and contrast.
The effect tends to be more visible on larger screens, and is probably more useful for those smartphones that are between FullHD and 4K. It is worth remembering that the video does not change the resolution of your device. If it displays in 1080p, the image displayed will still be in the same resolution.
Parallel update
Considering the update is being pushed out via a separate server, you may have to wait a while before you see the option. While tipsters spotted the new resolution on a Pixel 5 smartphone, we tested the same video on a Moto G6 Plus and the option was not yet available.
Finally, it is also important to remember that YouTube videos without 4K resolution support will not be loaded beyond their maximum resolution. If you want to test whether your device is already loading YouTube in 4K, just go to in this playlist and see if the 2160p option is available yet.
