A Fortune conducted a survey of 3.820 executives, directors and corporate analysts, and reported that, for the 14th year in a row, Apple was elected the most admired company in the world.
A Apple left behind giants like Amazon and Microsoft, which completed the podium, in addition to the Walt Disney Company (4th), Starbucks (5th), Berkshire Hathaway (owned by billionaire Warren Buffett in 6th), A (Google's parent company in 7th) and Netflix (9th), among others. The top 10 was completed by JP Morgan (8th) and Costco Wholesale (10th).
A Apple remained at the top as the most admired company in the world by winning a series of criteria put to the vote in the survey: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial solidity, long-term investment value, quality of products, services and global competitiveness categories.
Disney is also featured
In addition to the excellent performance of the Apple, it is worth highlighting the positioning of the Walt Disney Company as the fourth most admired company in the world in the survey released this Monday (01/01) by Fortune. Behind only Apple, Amazon and Microsoft, the Disney was elected, for the 18th year in a row, the best in the entertainment segment.
According to a release from Disney itself, the company achieved maximum scores in the following areas: quality of its products and services, global competitiveness, people management, social responsibility and long-term investment value.
How voting works
The vote that elected the Apple as the most admired company in the world and the Walt Disney Company as the best in the entertainment segment was carried out in partnership by Fortune and the global management consulting firm Korn Ferry.
To determine the most highly regarded companies in 52 industries, Korn Ferry asked executives, directors and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, ranging from investment value and quality of management and products to social responsibility and ability to attract talent.
“The list represents the companies that business leaders most admire and are watching closely,” Fortune noted in its publication. “Companies are ranked not just by their success, but by how and where they succeed,” it added, explaining part of the process that culminates in the formation of the list.
Most Underrated and Most Overrated CEOs
In addition to the research that pointed out the Apple as the most admired company in the world once again, another Fortune poll of 5.250 executives, elected Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, as the most underrated CEO in the corporate world, that is, another victory for Apple.
He came in behind Mary Barra (General Motors) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft). The most overrated CEOs, according to survey participants, are Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Elon Musk, billionaire responsible for Tesla and SpaceX.

“Business leaders are evaluating which of their peers get too little credit and which get too much,” Fortune explained in its second survey. This second survey, which targeted only CEOs, began four years ago. At the time, in 2017, Jeff Bezos, Amazon, Mark Zuckerberg, from Facebook, Tim Cook, Apple, and Tesla's Elon Musk were also present, some on both lists. According to Fortune, “it is better to be loved and hated than not to be noticed at all.”
