All about the best cell phones

Netflix has just launched a new tool for Android: a timer to regulate streaming time. The new icon, located in the upper right corner, will allow users to choose timers of 15, 30 and 45 minutes to suspend the transmission – or even the option of “when the episode ends”.

Previously, Netflix had already talked about the possibility of a time controller for users. The feature will be especially useful for those who think they spend too much time binge-watching series (and not enough time sleeping). But even if a timer like this were useful to stop children from spending too much time on their phones, the feature is only available for adult profiles, at least for now.

Once the timer stops the broadcast, the user can continue with their plans. The next time the user opens the Netflix app on Android, they will continue the episode from the point where they left off. Something tells me this is designed with insomniacs in mind, who will have a reminder to go to sleep.

Although the new feature is currently being tested globally, it is only available to a test group. If the feature is approved, Netflix may add the timer to Android in future updates.

Company for loneliness

Depending on the success of the tool, it may reach other versions of streaming. Recently the platform (which is the darling of Brazilians) arrived at 204 million users worldwide, and is testing other features that transform the app into a companion for solitude. In addition to the timer, the Android version of Netflix received the function in December 2020 audio only. Still on Android, Netflix is also offering sound with studio quality. Additionally, on TVs, Netflix has gained Shuffle Play (or Play Something) mode, which suggests programs, series and films for you to watch.
