Xiaomi is working on new gesture features for MIUI 12.5, its Android interface. The update brings a new haptic feedback system that improves touch control on the manufacturer's smartphones.

Haptic feedback is the famous little shake when touching the screen. In theory, more than that: any form of tactile response that the cell phone gives the user when the screen is touched with a valid command. According to information posted on the channel Xiaomi UI do Telegram, the new touch system includes Crisp, Base and Pop modes. When activating the haptic feedback function, the modes automatically vary according to the action performed on the smartphone.

Crisp mode has a high frequency and should be activated when the user performs actions to copy text, zoom in on the screen and drag icons. Pop mode will be used to open menus, while Base mode will be dedicated to biometric identification and functions to turn the device on and off. Check out a screenshot of the smartphone below exemplifying how the system works:

In addition to improving touch sensitivity, the update should also allow users to create custom gesture shortcuts for Xiaomi users.

MIUI 12.5 should bring few improvements over version 12, released last year. Currently, a beta version of the system with the new haptic feedback features is already available for Xiaomi users in China. In addition to the changes in touch sensors, the update brought new exclusive wallpapers, system sounds and an updated note-taking app for users. The system is expected to arrive for global devices soon.
