A Apple announced what it will do with part of the $100 million investment in its social and racial equity fund. Announced in June 2020, after civil society in the US and around the world held intense demonstrations against racism and violence, the initiative aims to promote equality and justice.

According to release, the Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) aims to dismantle systemic barriers to opportunity. In addition, the Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) Apple aims to combat injustices faced by black communities.

The Propel Center is one of the projects announced as part of the $100 million investment. Designed to become a pioneering innovation and learning hub for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), it will receive $25 million.

The funds will be used to build a campus at the Atlanta University Center. A virtual platform to support students and faculty from the HBCU community will also be developed. The Propel Center aims to provide learning opportunities in technological innovations such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and agricultural technologies. There will also be content on social justice, arts, entertainment and entrepreneurship.

For Propel Center, the equity fund of Apple will be able to count on partnerships. The institutions that participate in the project will be able to take part in the campus activations. Experts from Apple will be providing job opportunities and monitoring educational training in the project.

Detroit Development Academy

Another project of the Apple The recipient of part of the matching fund is the Development Academy in the city of Detroit. With collaboration from Michigan State University, the Apple will provide courses from his academy to all students in the city.

The Development Academy initiative is expected to begin this year. One of its main goals is to train young black entrepreneurs, creators and programmers. Thus, one of the expected results is the training of professionals capable of developing iOS applications.

Harlem Capital and Clear Vision Impact

New York-based venture capital firm Harlem Capital invests in 1.000 companies largely owned by young entrepreneurs. It also provides financial support to black entrepreneurs. The equity fund will provide $10 million to the firm. Apple aims to promote access to economic opportunities.

Harlem Capital will be present at the Development Academy in Detroit and the Entrepreneur Camp in Apple for entrepreneurs and developers, providing guidance and mentoring. In return, the Apple will also support the company's internship program.

Another $25 million will be invested in the Clear Vision Impact Fund, a social impact venture fund from investment firm Siebert Williams Shank created in partnership with Microsoft. Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses owned by minorities and women, the Clear Vision Impact Fund also aims to improve access and technological development to foster equality.

Martin Luther King Jr.

The living memorial dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, the King Center, will also receive contributions from the Equality Fund of the Apple. REJI intends to strengthen its purpose of sharing ideals of social justice and combating inequality for future generations as well.

Dr. Bernice A. King will be at an event next week at the Apple called Challenge for Change. Luther King's daughter and CEO of the King Center will participate by encouraging young people to contribute to their communities.
