In 2021, some of Universal's classic horror films turn 90 years old. To celebrate, the studio will make several of these titles available for streaming on the channel Fear: The Home Of Horror, on YouTube. The program includes the franchises Dracula, with Bela Lugosi, and Frankenstein, played by Boris Karloff.
Universal Pictures was one of the studios responsible for popularizing the horror genre in the United States, so much so that titles such as “Dracula” (1931), “The Mummy” (1932) and “The Invisible Man” (1933) reside in the pop culture imagination to this day.
According to the studio, after its release, Horror Classics will be available for just one week on YouTube. The material will be available in English with the platform's automatic subtitles option. Check out the full schedule:
- 15/01: “Dracula” (1931) and “The Mummy” (1932) – available until 22/01
- 16/01: “Frankenstein” (1931) and “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935) – available until 23/01
- 17/01: “The Invisible Man” (1933), “The Wolfman” (1941) and “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948) – available until 24/01
In addition to the classics, the Fear: The Home of Horror channel has a full schedule dedicated to fans of the genre on YouTube. You can also watch reviews and specials comparisons between the originals and remakes.
The fact that these films are released on an official channel guarantees viewers the chance to watch them in high definition. The initiative also reinforces the trend that studios are increasingly looking to streaming as an ally.
Furthermore, because of the pandemic Covid-19, studios such as Warner and Universal Pictures have announced that will release their next releases both for cinemas and the internet in 2021.
