All about the best cell phones

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday (22/12) the launch of the company's first smartwatch (still without images) in January. The businessman did not reveal the date, but there are rumors that the phone will be launched alongside the company's new flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 9.

“Many of you said you wanted a watch and, as you may have heard over the weekend, we are making one to be released early next year. Wishes do come true,” said the businessman, who had already confirmed the existence of the project in an interview with the website Input, last week.

Lau explains that OnePlus had reservations about launching a smartwatch due to issues with Wear OS. According to him, the wearable was not up to the Chinese company's standards. "Wear OS has room to improve," said the entrepreneur. "What we are doing is working with Google to improve the connectivity between Wear OS, Android TV and Android smartphones and thus create better interoperability for the device ecosystems."

Months ago, it was revealed that the OnePlus Watch – as the smartwatch is already called – will feature a circular bezel, something the company itself teased in a Twitter post. Recently, a OnePlus wearable watch was also certified by the Info-Communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) in Singapore.

It now remains to be seen what software the smartwatch will work with: that is, whether OnePlus will continue with the standard Wear OS avatar or have the level of customization offered by Oxygen OS.
