All about the best cell phones

Twitter has taken steps to become a safer social network in several ways. In terms of content, the platform recently developed a mechanism that alert the user about the possibility of fake news when liking a suspicious tweet. Now, Twitter wants to implement physical keys for login.

Physical keys? It's not exactly a key like a door key, but it's a physical object to protect things on the internet. A flash drive.

This is a type of 2FA (two-factor authentication). Typically, the other factor (also physical, in a way) is your cell phone. When you enable this option on Twitter, in addition to your username and password, you will need to enter a code sent via SMS, scan a QR code with an authentication app, or use a physical security key. When you choose the latter option, the site will provide a key for download that must be transferred to a pen drive. When you need to log in to the social network, you will need to connect your device to your PC.

Hacked accounts

With the new update, this physical key pattern is also available for smartphones. The procedure is still a bit complicated, after all, you need to activate the option first on the desktop and then pair it with the cell phone.

The move comes amid a spate of verified accounts being hacked on Twitter. The most recent were those of Elon Musk, Apple and US President-elect Joe Biden. In the tweets, the attackers asked followers to transfer a sum of bitcoin to an account. The update was made as a way to reduce this type of malicious activity, since this new method of accessing Twitter requires the person to have the physical keys in hand to log in.
