All about the best cell phones

One of the most complete smartphones in terms of cameras and powerful hardware, the Nokia 9.3 Pureview will be delayed. According to a source who spoke to the Android Community website, it should only appear “in the first half of 2021”, anytime between January and June of next year.

The reason for this was not shared by the source, so Android Community assumed that HMD Global, the owner of Nokia, should not be ready to reveal the device yet. So far, it has been speculated to launch at a dedicated event in the third quarter (which never happened) and at the end of 2020 (which is unlikely to happen).

Nokia 9.3 PureView will be delayed

Nokia was thinking of launching the Nokia 9.3 PureView in 2020, but a source highlighted the delay and the device should now arrive by June 2021

“Well, the pandemic is also a possible reason [for the delay],” reads an excerpt from the published text. “We are not going to point fingers at Nokia or HMD Global. But it is interesting to note that the Nokia 9.3 Pureview is now expected to arrive with two other mid-range devices – the Nokia 6.3 and the Nokia 7.3 5G.”

Respectable specifications, albeit intermediate

Hearing that the Nokia 9.3 Pureview will be delayed is likely to dismay some of the Finnish multinational brand's most die-hard fans. Especially since, although it is officially considered a mid-range smartphone, it is in the "upper tier" of the class, and could even compete with some lesser-known high-end models.

The display is one of the points that has been drawing the most attention to the device, assuming the rumors are true: we are talking about a 6,7-inch P-OLED display, with HDR10+ and a 120Hz frame rate. The resolution is 1440 x 2880 pixels, an 18:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of approximately 480 ppi. For protection, the iconic Gorilla Glass 5.

Internally, the device should come with an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, Adreno 650 GPU and two versions: the most basic, with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage; and the most “beefy”, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of space. The case has IP68 certification against dust and water (it is not “proof”, but rather “resistant” – don't go diving with the thing in the pool, please!) and the 5.000 mAh battery has fast charging technology (power still unknown).

The camera is where the device stands out: the Nokia 9.3 Pureview has four rear cameras, being:

  • A 108MP (f/1.8) main sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS)
  • An 8MP telephoto sensor
  • A 13MP wide-angle sensor
  • A 3D time-of-flight (ToF) sensor

All lenses are Carl Zeiss and the dual LED flash, HDR support and Panorama mode complete the rear package. At the front, a dual camera with a 20 MP main lens and a 3D ToF sensor are present.

In terms of video recording, the new Pureview should come with the ability to record in 8K (30 frames per second, or “fps”), 4K (30 or 60 fps), 1080p (30, 60 or 120 fps). On the front camera, video with HDR support can be recorded in 4K (30 fps) or 1080p (30 fps).

Also expect a headphone jack (3.5 mm, the famous “P2”), accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, compass and fingerprint reader positioned on the back of the device.
