As part of the recent reforms Google, YouTube has been adding a number of features. An example of this was the possibility of create chapters for videos, tested a few months ago and implemented shortly after. Now, YouTube is testing an easier way to mark a specific part of the video from the comment.
In a post on Google's user support page, one of the company's employees disclosed a series of tests currently being carried out by YouTube, among which is an attempt to more easily comment on the time of a certain part of the video. According to the post:
We’re testing an easier way to add a timestamp of the exact moment you’re watching when you comment on a video. People in this experiment will see a new icon when writing a comment that they can click to automatically add the timestamp of the video they’re currently watching (no typing required!). This feature is currently only available to a small number of users.
The post also clarifies that the tests done by YouTube, in relation to new functions, may be temporary, although they are always directed to a random group of users. The addition of chapters to videos, mentioned previously, was part of this process and is currently a function available to everyone. In fact, the video platform is testing the automation of this, that is, the creation of sections in videos without the need for the creator to add them manually, through machine learning.
If you're lucky, YouTube's new feature to make it easier to share video clips in comments may already be available to you. If not, we can only hope that, just as video chapters have been made available to everyone, this one will be too.
