In yet another step towards sealing the fate of its messaging app, Google has ended video calling via Hangouts on Android and via browser. After updating to the latest version of the app, the option it gives for videos is “Share in Meet video call link”. Apparently, this is another decision to encourage users to migrate to the apps that branched off from Hangouts, Google Meet and Google Chat.
The problem here is that when you click to share the Meet link, Hangouts automatically generates a link that is posted in the other user's inbox, both or more people need to click on the link and click Join to enter the call, but the other person's device will not ring to notify them.

Additionally, Meet video calls only allow 10 people at a time in free mode, and 25 for the Business and Education editions. Previously, the 25-person option was available to everyone.
With Meet, Google promises some advantages, such as instant captions and screen sharing in video calls. But when I tested the link here, what was spoken in Portuguese was transcribed in English, resulting in some bizarre captions. I couldn't find an option to change the captions to Portuguese in the settings.
If you currently need a free option for video calls with more than 10 people, you can try Google Duo, at least for now. Google also plans to replace this app with Meet.
